National Army Museum, London

Boyd-Thorpe Associates have recently completed an option appraisal for the National Army Museum as part of the development plans for the new museum.  Based in Chelsea, London the museum attracts 270,000 visitors a year.  With a redevelopment master plan well underway the Trustees wished to consider their options for catering in the new museum site which will open in 2016 following a two year closure.   Alex Coffin, consultant with BTA, conducted the option appraisal in which extensive local market research was carried out as well as research into the profile of the current and future museum visitor. The report considered the style of catering offer suited to the museum location and its visitor profile, the positioning of the café within the new building and optimum seating capacity, the projected turnover and income that the museum might get from catering and finally it appraised the management options available. The report was delivered within a tight four week time frame to integrate fully with the design appraisal being carried out by others. http://www.nam.ac.uk/
